Books (February 2018)

Happy Tuesday! Today, I am reviewing the six books I read in February. There was a little bit of everything this month-suspense, humor, a true story, finances, and history.  For the most part, I really liked them all so if you are looking for suggestions, check some of these out! 

My February reading started off with a bang and What She Knew did not disappoint. This book is about a little boy who goes missing in the woods while on a walk with his mom. I really had no idea how it was going to play out, and I think I suspected just about everyone at one point or another in the book. This is a good one!

I was excited to read The First Family Detail because I love reading about life in the White House and with the First family. Let me just say, this book was juicy (insert wide eyed emoji). Some of it was a little too much information than I cared for, but I did enjoy reading a little more about how the Secret Service operates, and a few things I didn't know about some of the Presidents and their families. I would say that most of what I read has lined right up with what's been in other books too. It made me sad to read about how some of the Presidents (and their families) treated the White House Staff, Secret Service etc, but on the other hand, I did love to read about the Presidents and their families who treated their staff really well (hello Preident Reagan, both President Bush's, and President Obama!).

The Girl with Seven Names is about a woman who grew up in North Korea and then escapes into China and eventually to South Korea.  This book was very eye opening for me, as I had no idea what life was/is really like in North Korea. I enjoyed reading about her journey into these different Asian countries and learning a little more of what life is like in each of them. She has a pretty amazing story!

This is my second time reading Love Your Life Not Theirs. I am a big Rachel Cruze fan, and I find this book very encouraging. I would say I already knew 80 percent of the book from following Dave Ramsey, but I did like Rachel's perspective and take on things. The first two chapters are my favorite of the book because they are encouraging and real. This is one of those books that I will pull out every year or two just as a refresher and for encouragement.

This was my first Melanie Shankle book, and I liked it! Church of the Small Things is about finding significance and meaning in every day normal life. Melanie tells a lot of her story and then relates back to God using us even in the small and ordinary tasks of every day life. I do have to say the majority of this book is about HER story (which is just fine!) and there are very small bits of relating back to us. So in some ways I felt like the explanation of the book was a little misleading. But I like to read about other people's lives so this was just fine for me.

Ohhhh The Outliers was scary, but I liked it! A high school girl (who has recently lost her mom) receives a text from her former friend who has been missing asking her to come with her (the missing girl's) boyfriend to pick her up. So this book follows the high school students going to find their friend. There are twists and turns, and I had no idea who to trust and who was good and who was bad. Eeeek!
